In 2024 we have celebrated historical dates such as 102-years anniversary of Mongolian mining industry, and 50-years anniversary since the higher educational institutions of Mongolia started preparing the high-grade specialists in mining sector.  

Since 1950s development of design works and feasibility studies for new mines, processing plants, as well as for expansion of existing mines and concentrators had been intensified. In this period of time new power plants and many coal mining entities supplying the local coal consumers were put into operation throughout the country.

The history of Mining Institute starts back in 1959 of XX century when the former Committee of Ministers of Mongolian People’s Republic issued the Declaration No. 377 dated 21 September 1959 to, and according to the Order 531 of the Minister of Industry dated 02 November 1959, the 11 engineers’ team was organized under the Investment and Construction department of the Ministry of Industry.

During over the 60-years of activities, the Mining Institute, University of Science and Technology of Mongolia, completed over 130 state-owned projects, performed over 1300 scientific research works, developed more than 560 feasibility studies for various mineral deposits, performed proximate coal analyses for more than 110 deposits and some 50 operating coal mines, as well as rock mechanics tests for more than 350 mineral deposits. The mining Institute possesses Certificates for 20 innovations and more than 100 patents.

Today, our Mining Institute makes a tangible contribution to the development of the Mining industry with more than 100 years of development history, and continues its mission with dignity.
